Greetings! This ministry is the result of visions of our founding fathers. John Merrill Reitenbach, while he was seeking God, was shown a flock of sheep wandering on the mountainside near his Pennsylvania home. Ernest Franklin Houdeshell Sr., when he was only five years old in 1926, was shown Is.11:6-9. Our core motivation is to see lives of hurting people changed into something beautiful by the awesome power of Jesus Christ. Our focus is to minister to the whole person, spirit, soul and body in order to glorify God in every area of our lives. Our intention is to meet the needs of all ages from the youngest to the oldest. To include the destitute and down trodden, not forsaking "one of the least of these".
Although this ministry can trace its roots back to the 1920's through John Merrill Reitenbach as first pastor of Black Run Chapel and his daughter Dorothy who received his mantle, it was not until more recently through Ernest F. Houdeshell Sr. as founder of The Blessings of Canaan in 1967, that an organization was formed. It is obvious however that God has had a plan before the foundation of the world. This website and ministry is the latest evidence that the Holy Ghost is continuing to anoint and appoint the next generation to carry the message of deliverance to those in need.
The hand of God can be clearly seen over the years as the stories and circumstances that eventually brought Dorothy and Ernest together are so numerous one could write a book. Bringing two families together for a total of 12 people under one roof, is material enough for a book! Over the years the experiences have shaped and molded the children's lives until they are now the next generation to stand in the gap for souls headed in the wrong direction in a dying world. Mother and Dad have graduated from the school of life and are awaiting their rewards. It is now the Joshua generation that will go up and possess the land.
